Hammurabi (c. 1810 - c. 1750 BCE) was the sixth king in the First Babylonian dynasty who united most of Mesopotamia under Babylonian Rule.

He is famous for introducing the Code of Hammurabi, which emphasized the punishment for crimes toward a wronged person, which differentiated it from earlier laws, which was about compensation to the wronged victim.

After his death in 1760 BCE at the age of 80, the empire was passed on to his son Samsu-iluna.
