Trivia / Unus Annus

  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: The "Oh my fucking god" meme. In that particular shot (from "Baby Hands Operation"), he was actually saying "We're gonna fucking die". He actually said "oh my fucking god" in "We Eat Bugs".
  • Bury Your Art: The channel was created with this in mind. A new video would be released every day for a whole year. On the final day the channel was deleted with the intent being all the videos are lost forever. Mark and the rest of the team even requested for the videos not to be reuploaded.
  • Colbert Bump: Predictably enough, the videos shown in "What is the Least Viewed Video on YouTube?" gained a huge bump in viewers after the video was posted. KOOX notably has made two videos talking about their popularity boost due to one of their videos being featured.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • One of the channel's Signature Scenes is when Mark punched a hole in the wall in "2 Grown Men Attempt the Presidential Fitness Test", injuring his hand in the process. While the moment was quite memetic and led to several spinoff videos, Mark felt that he shouldn't have lost his temper and regretted making Ethan uncomfortable (not to mention the damage to the wall and his hand).
    • Mark also had regrets about his conduct in "Learning the Ancient Art of Chinese Archery", feeling that he pushed his Jerkass facade too far and genuinely irritated Ethan and their instructor.
    • "How Much Caffeine Does It Take to Kill a Man?" was, in Mark and Ethan's words, mediocre. So mediocre, in fact, that they attempted to delete it several hours early during the final livestream, only changing their mind at the last second.
    • They also acknowledge that several videos were basically "Will It ---?" and Mark says it with a defeated tone in Recreating Every Single Unus Annus Video.
  • #EngineeredHashtag: Several during the "Goodbye" livestream. Some examples include #TattusAnnus, #MarksNewHat, and towards the end, #MementoMori.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Invoked. All of the videos were lost when the channel was deleted on November 14, 2020, exactly a year after Unus Annus was started. Mark and Ethan are well aware that people will reupload the videos and have pointed out that, if possible, the videos will be taken down. The only way to see the channel's videos now is via the unauthorized reuploads, and only time will tell if any of these reuploads remain or if all of them are removed from the web.
    • Roughly two years later, it remains available in its entirety on several different streaming and archival websites outside of Youtube, as well as at least one well-seeded torrent. It seems like the re-uploaders ultimately won out, with little continued effort in fighting videos outside of Youtube's Content ID system.
  • Meme Acknowledgment: Three videos were dedicated solely to this:
    • "We Looked at Unus Annus Memes"
    • "We Explore the Unus Annus Subreddit for Your Delicious Memes"
    • "Reacting to Your Hilarious Green Screen Memes"
  • Missing Episode: Before the channel's deletion, the video The Deep End of Omegle: Risky Boogaloo was removed for unspecified reasons.
  • Troubled Production: Mark and Ethan made it clear several times, especially in the channel's final two weeks, that Unus Annus was severely crippled by the COVID-19 Pandemic in the middle of the year, confining them to online interactions and some more basic ideas in their individual homes instead of executing bigger plans outside in the real world.
  • What Could Have Been: Due to a last-minute bombshell reveal by Mark and Ethan, this has its own page here.
  • Working Title: As revealed in the final livestream, some other proposed names for the channel were "How Many Days Left?", "Days Left", "365" (pronounced as "Three Six Five"), and "Annus Singulos".
