  • Melissa George came up with the idea to have her hair braided.
  • Beau Garrett saw many local women in Brazil going topless on the beach, and felt inspired to have her character do so too.
• Cast the Expert: A real surgeon was used for the organ removal sequence.
• Enforced Method Acting: The production shot without hair and makeup artists or trailers for the actors, lending a sense of authenticity to their state.
• No Stunt Double: Josh Duhamel swam a hundred yards for the shot of Alex escaping through a hole.
• One-Take Wonder: The bus crashing was done in one take.
• Throw It In!: Olivia Wilde used up her oxygen in an air pocket too quickly and started flailing around, having forgotten the emergency signal. As that frightened state suited her character in that moment, it was used in the final cut.
• What Could Have Been: An earlier draft of the script had Pru dying but the character lives in the finished film.
