  • Creator Backlash: He was almost never satisfied with his own albums.
  • Creator's Oddball: One reason why his career didn't take off more than it did (Happy Sad was his highest-charting album and it only reached #81.) He'd create a whole bunch of songs in one genre, e.g. folk music, and would then shift his style to some other genre (soul, avant-jazz, R&B) which the fans he already had didn't like. Nowadays, this kind of thing is accepted but back in the late 60s/early 70s it was not the way to become hugely popular.
