- Out of Order: This episode was produced as the eleventh episode of Series 9 yet aired as the twenty-sixth.
- Recycled Script: This episode borrows elements from "Ghost Train", "Halloween", and "Bold and Brave":
- "Ghost Train" - Both episodes involve an engine (Percy/Thomas) getting accidentally covered in a white powder (lime/flour) and using their ghostly appearance to scare someone who had been rude to them (Thomas/Diesel).
- "Halloween" - Both episodes take place on Halloween and involve Thomas being sent to work with a diesel ('Arry and Bert/Diesel) who tries to scare him, only to end up scared themselves. The episode also reuses the line "Trust a silly old steamie to be scared on Halloween!".
- "Bold and Brave" - Both episodes involve Diesel trying to scare Thomas with lies.
- What Could Have Been: The first choice for the Fat Controller's Halloween costume was a Big Red Devil. The producers feared that this wouldn't pass on American children's televison, so an alternate version with him dressed as a wizard was filmed alongside it, which is the take that ended up being used. This fact is known thanks to a magazine, with the caption, "Did you know? The Fat Controller likes to dress up. Once he was a devil!".
