Trivia / The Whole Nine Yards

Go To

  • California Doubling: Averted. When the filming started in Montreal, the script was rewritten to have the story take place in Montreal too.
  • Completely Different Title:
    • The title for the European French dub is Mon Voisin le Tueur, which translates as My Neighbor the Hitman.
    • The title for the Canadian French dub of the first movie is Le Nouveau Voisin (The New Neighbor). Regarding its sequel, the title for that one is Le Retour du nouveau voisin (The Return of the New Neighbor).
    • The Hungarian dub is Bérgyilkos a szomszédom, what is similar to the above mentioned European French title (My Neighbor Is a Hitman). The sequel's title is Már megint bérgyilkos a szomszédom, wich translates as My Neighbor Is a Hitman Again.
  • Fake Nationality: The decidedly non-French-Canadian (or any type of Canadian) Rosanna Arquette plays Sophie.
  • Playing Against Type: Ironically, director Jonathan Lynn saw casting Kevin Pollak in the role of Gogolak as this. As Pollak's more famous movies were things like A Few Good Men, The Usual Suspects, and Casino, Lynn was worried Pollak wouldn't be funny (Lynn presumably unaware of Pollak's career as a stand-up comic). Matthew Perry and Bruce Willis had to convince Lynn that, yes, Pollak was capable of being funny.
  • The Production Curse: The film has an unusually high mortality rate; actors Michael Clarke Duncan and Matthew Perry both died relatively young (and in another somewhat creepy coincidence, both were 54 when they passed away), and Bruce Willis, though relatively older at 68, and not dead, is suffering from frontotemporal dementia.
