• Follow the Leader: Has one in the form of Astrocreep, which also involves you playing as a parasitoid alien slug evolving by consuming its victims. They even both have an Ass Shove scene! Unlike The Visitor, however, Astrocreep's sequels were much less successful.
• Word of God: The official name for the parasite is "Death Slug".

Trivia tropes from the film:

• Uncredited Role: Franco Nero's cameo has the Jesus Christ Expy.
• Vacation, Dear Boy: Lance Henriksen considers the film "a real turkey" and claims that the cast pretty much only signed up for it in order to enjoy a free trip to Italy. It's almost certain that financial considerations played a part.
