• Keep Circulating the Tapes: The book was first adapted into a film in 1940, by RKO Radio Pictures, and when the Walt Disney studio produced their own version in 1960, they purchased the rights to the original to avoid being compared to it. They then proceeded to hold onto it for fifty years, never giving it a theatrical, television or video re-release of any kind. It was finally given a very limited, print-on-demand DVD release by Turner Classic Movies in 2010, and was readily available for the first time in nearly 80 years when Disney included it on their Disney+ streaming service upon its launch in 2019.
