  • Creator Backlash: Not John Byrne himself, but Dan Jurgens of The Death of Superman fame (who, along with his cohorts, took over from Byrne and even did material based off it, including Superman: Exile) hated how the story ended with Superman outright executing the depowered General Zod and company, though it's less the idea of Superman killing itself he hated, but rather the fact that it was an execution, expressing the belief that if Superman were to kill, it'd be more in-character for it to be to stop a currently active threat that's causing immediate danger. As the link shows, he actually considers Man of Steel's handling of Superman killing Zod, done to protect a family that Zod was threatening at the time, to be an improvement.
