Trivia / The Simpsons Wrestling

  • Dummied Out:
    • Itchy and Scratchy have fully-rendered character select portraits. Since both characters are only usable in the Bonus Match Up mode (which doesn't have portraits), the only way their portraits can be seen is through hacking.
    • Springfield Elementary has a fully functional arena. According to level designer Mike Ebert, the arena was cut to distance the game from the Columbine massacre.
    • Mr. Burns' character-exclusive taunts didn't make it into the final game.
  • Role Reprise: All of the actors from the show reprise their roles for the game:
  • Troubled Production: According to Mike Ebert, a level designer for the game, development went through a lot of trouble before the game was released:
    • The initial producer was not only inexperienced, but actually quit mid-production.
    • Some of the dialogue penned by the show's writers was supposedly too offensive for the game to use.
    • Certain features like a 3D character select screen and a Springfield Elementary stage were cut for different reasons. The latter due to a event involving a school tragedy from around that time.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The game was originally pitched as a Hollywood celebrities wrestling game but was changed to a Simpsons game instead. This idea would be realized with another license game with the same gameplay by the same developers called Celebrity Deathmatch but with unsurprisingly worse reception.
    • Bender and Leela were intended to cameo on the Spaceship stage and can even be seen in early footage, but were scrapped from the final game and replaced with generic aliens.
    • The character select screen would have originally had 3D models of the characters Trash Talking and attacking each other upon being highlighted. After an executive objected, this was scrapped and the final game features silent, non-interactive 2D portraits.
