Trivia / The Simpsons S5 E5 "Treehouse of Horror IV"

  • Deleted Scene:
    • Two in "The Devil and Homer Simpsons". One of Homer's punishments was having his head used as a bowling ball, only to split open on hitting the pins, revealing a note reading "IOU one brain, God" (a callback to earlier in the episode when Homer's emergency donut stash only has a note stating "Homer, IOU one emergency donut, Homer"), then followed by Bart trolling the devil by saying he'd sell his soul for a Formula One racecar and later changing his mind. At the end, Lionel Hutz returns with a pizza box, thinking he lost the case and has to give the Simpsons a free pizza, only to find they won without him (he then reveals the box was empty). Both were later included in "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular".
    • "Bart Simpsons' Dracula": Bart turns out to be a vampire and eats rats that are served by Marge.
  • Distanced from Current Events: Richard Nixon is part of the Jury of the Damned, which he protests since he's not dead yet (with Devil Flanders implying that he's on the jury because of a deal Nixon made with himnote ). Nixon passed away six months after the episode's original airing, leading to Nixon's protest of still being alive to be deleted when the episode was first aired on terrestrial television in the UK by BBC Two as by that point he had been dead for several years and they didn't want to confuse anyone.
  • Edited for Syndication: In addition to the scene with Richard Nixon, Kang and Kodos' obligatory TOH appearance where they mock Bart for believing that an imaginary creature like a gremlin was attacking the school bus, only to discover a gremlin on their ship, is removed in syndicated releases (barring DVD releases, FXX reruns, and the Disney Plus release).
  • First Appearance: Üter (the German foreign exchange studentnote ), marking a rare instance where a character is introduced in a Halloween episode and then put into the regular canon.
  • Orphaned Reference: Homer re-attaching his head when he appears at the trial originally came from the deleted scene mentioned above when the head was used as a bowling ball.
  • What Could Have Been: Üter was only supposed to appear in this episode, but got incorporated into the main canon because the producers liked him.
