• Cast the Expert: Theodore Bikel was cast primarily because of his aptitude for languages, including Russian.
• Fake Russian: Rozanov and the entire sub crew, though some of the actors were actual immigrants from the USSR.
• Recycled Set: The submarine mockup was originally built for Morituri.
