    • Beau is pretty attached to his beef.
    • In the opening credits we see a picture of a young Maggie wearing a cowboy hat. It's a picture of Debra Winger's character from Urban Cowboy.
  • Actor-Shared Background: Sam Elliot actually lives on a ranch, though in California rather than Colorado

  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine:
    • With Kutcher and Masterson as alumni of That '70s Show, a number of the supporting cast are also connected to that show.
      • Bret Harrison, who plays Kenny, played recurring character Charlie Richardson.
      • Wilmer Valderrama shows up as Umberto near the end of Season 1.
      • Debra Jo Rupp shows up at the start of Season Two as Abby's mom.
      • Kurtwood Smith, as Peterson, emerges from a room full of billowing smoke with a grin on his face. Unlike the characters on That '70s Show, he outright states that he's smoking pot, though it’s also because he has terminal cancer.

  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Danny Masterson was fired from the show after four women came forth with rape allegations. While no details have been released, and Masterson has not been arrested or charged, Rooster was written off the show.
