- Executive Meddling: "Trouble on the Line" was originally more focused on railway safety and crowd control at the National Railway Museum, but the plot was watered down by the publishers. To remedy this, Christopher Awdry later wrote "Bad Days for Thomas and his Friends" and "More Bad Days for Thomas and his Friends".
- Word of Saint Paul: According to an email sent to Clive Spong, the illustrator of the book, by Twitter user 01Satly1, the diesel shunter who shunts Thomas onto the flatbed in "Not the Ticket" is the same Diesel from "Duck and the Diesel Engine".
