Trivia / The Qur'an

  • Continuity Lockout: Related to Continuity Nod in the Main page, unfortunately. The Qur'an references Biblical events and quotes many times, but tend to just leave them rather vague, apparently expecting the readers to get the context from the original version (since, after all, the Bible, however corrupted, is still considered sacred in Islam). The thing is, most Muslims don't read the Bible (they tend to refer to exegesis, hadith, and the qisas al-anbiya — stories of the prophets — to get info, but not all do this). This is the reason why Ishmael is seen by Muslims to be the one nearly sacrificed by Abraham, instead of Isaac; the Qur'an doesn't actually state which son was sacrificed, but since it is ordered before the story of Isaac's birth, they decided Ishmael was the one. In another case, the destruction of the First Temple and the fall of Israel and Judah, a major Biblical event that is the focus of numerous books in the Tanakh/Old Testament, is abbreviated to a grand total of five verses (QS 17:4-8), none of which mention who did the invasions (Assyrians and Babylonians, under Nebuchadnezzar) and what came of it.
  • Word of Dante: Defied, shot, and sent to Jahannam. Allah explicitly forbids coming up with your own Fanon and putting it on the same level as Qur'an and Hadith. This restriction applies even to Muhammad.
  • Word of God: Every verses in the Quran are said by Allah.
