Trivia / The Pink Panther Strikes Again

Go To

  • Blooper: Dreyfus makes the UN Building disappear on October 9th. Afterwards, Clouseau goes to Oktoberfest, which he says starts soon. However, the brochure he found in the kidnapper's pocket clearly shows Oktoberfest ending on October 6th.
  • Creator Backlash: Peter Sellers was never happy with the final version of the film and publicly criticized Blake Edwards for misusing his talents. The strain in their relationship is noted in the next movie's opening credits listing it as a "Sellers-Edwards" production.
  • Deleted Role: Liz Smith as Madame Balls.
  • Deleted Scene: Scenes featuring Harvey Korman as Professor Auguste Balls and Marne Maitland as Deputy Commissioner Lasorde were deleted from the film, but were later seen in full in Trail of the Pink Panther in 1982. The Professor Balls character would appear in the next film, Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), played by Graham Stark.
  • Fake Russian: The British Lesley Anne-Down as the Russian spy Olga.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Michael Robbins' singing was dubbed by Julie Andrews.
  • The Other Marty: The role of Olga Bariosova was originally played by Maud Adams, who was replaced after filming a few scenes. Blake Edwards then intended to cast Nicola Pagett after seeing her in Upstairs Downstairs but instead ended up casting Pagett's castmate Lesley-Anne Down in the role.
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: Many fans have noted that the opening credits sequence feels like its own short film, and doesn't connect with the actual movie's story (it involves Clouseau trying to catch the Panther in a movie theater, and the two being transported into the screen). The director of the sequence, Tony White, explained once that, for unknown reasons, Blake Edwards never sent Richard Williams' Studio a copy of the script to draw inspiration from, thus they had to create their own ideas independently.
  • Stunt Double: Owing to Peter Sellers' heart condition, whenever possible he would have his stunt double Joe Dunne stand in for him. Because of the often physical nature of the comedy, this would occur quite frequently.
  • Technology Marches On: The insane man who breaks into the television broadcast is identified through a photograph someone took off a TV screen.
  • Tuckerization: French assassin Jean Tournier is named for the Real Life French cinematographer of the same name, whose credits include Moonraker and Peter Sellers’ final film The Fiendish Plot of Dr. Fu Manchu.
  • Uncredited Role: Omar Sharif as the Egyptian assassin.
  • What Could Have Been: According to Ed Sikov's 'Mr Strangelove', Peter Sellers was originally going to play Professor Fassbender in a dual role but this was dropped and Richard Vernon took the part.
  • You Look Familiar: Graham Stark turns up once again, this time as the desk clerk at the Munich hotel.
