Trivia / The Man Called Flintstone

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Paul Frees voices Rock Slag, Triple X/Green Goose, Bobo and Mario.
  • Christmas Rushed: The film was first announced in trades in January 1966; coming to theaters 7 months later. A mere four months after the tv series had finished.
  • Completely Different Title: The film was released in Latin America as El súper agente Picapiedra ("Super Agent Flintstone").
  • Directed by Cast Member: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Jorge Arvizu is the ADR Director as well as the voice of Fred Flintstone and Rock Slag.
  • Edited for Syndication: All home video releases from 2005 onward edit out the opening Logo Joke, with Wilma as Columbia Pictures' famous "Torch Lady". Instead, the film starts with a quick montage of shots from the "Spy-Type Guy" number filling in the gap where the Columbia logo was until the "A Hanna-Barbera Production" credit appears (as the original version showed the Torch Lady first, then shifted to the right where the H-B credit appeared).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: While the film has been released on DVD in both Canada and the United States, as mentioned above, they don't include the "Torch Lady" gag with Wilma. The only way you're going to get this version is through the out-of-print VHS from 1988 or the laserdisc from 1990.
  • Non-Singing Voice: This film marks the debut of Henry Corden voicing Fred (albeit only his singing), which he would take over fully from Alan Reed upon his death in 1977. He would later rotate the role with Jeff Bergman until his death in 2005.
  • Short Run in Peru: For a while the film was only released on DVD in Canada due to the fact that Columbia Pictures owned the rights to the songs. In 2008, Warner Bros. cleared the rights and released a DVD in America that year.
  • Swan Song: This was intended to be the Grand Finale of the entire franchise. It is certainly the final "episode" to be done in the style of the 1960-66 series (when the characters returned to TV a few years later for the Pebbles & Bamm-Bamm spin-off, animation style, the target demographic, and other factors had changed).
  • Unspecified Role Credit: Aside from Alan Reed as Fred Flintstone and Mel Blanc as Barney Rubble, the opening credits list the voice actors and not which characters they voiced.
  • Working Title: During production, the film was titled That Man Flintstone.
  • You Sound Familiar:
    • Boulder is voiced by Harvey Korman, who previously voiced the Great Gazoo in The Flintstones.
    • Ali is voiced by Don Messick, who previously played Bamm-Bamm Rubble in the TV series.
    • Roberta is voiced by Janet Waldo, who took over for the late Verna Felton as Pearl Slaghoople in the TV series' fourth season,
  • The airplane the Flintstones and Rubbles take to get to Paris has "Qantas", the name of a real Australian airline, written on the side.
