Trivia / The Mad Doctor

Go To

  • Banned in China: The short was banned in England in its original 1933 release. Plenty of theaters in America refused to show it as well.
  • First Appearance: of Dr. XXX, later renamed The Mad Doctor.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There's been some strange mythology surrounding this short, based on the notion that it reflected some sort of "obsession with death" on the part of Walt Disney (tying into the rumors of his alleged cryogenic freezing), and that the Disney company tried to actively suppress it in later years. In fact, while it's Darker and Edgier for a Mickey Mouse cartoon, it's more of a Horror Comedy than "gruesome", not to mention the All Just a Dream ending lightening things up. As mentioned above, it ran into some censorship issues in its original release, but has been readily available since.
