  • Bonus Material: The paperback editions of each book add some bonus content at the end.
    • The paperback edition of Gideon the Ninth includes a glossary, an in-universe article about the nature of the bond between a necromancer and a cavalier, Cohort intelligence files on the heirs and cavaliers primary of the Houses, and an explanation of naming systems and pronunciation guide.
    • The paperback edition of Harrow the Ninth includes a glossary, an in-universe memorandum about the Blood of Eden's tactics for fighting House forces, a pronunciation guide, and a short story from Judith's perspective about her, Coronabeth, and Camilla's time with the Blood of Eden.
  • Diagnosis of God: Tamsyn Muir has confirmed, both in the acknowledgements part of Harrow the Ninth and in panels and interviews that Harrowhark has schizophrenia and not all of her hallucinations were magical in nature.
  • I Just Write the Thing: Tamsyn Muir has said that the Trilogy Creep happened because while Nona's story was meant to just be Act I of Alecto The Ninth, Nona was so fascinating and fun that her story quickly expanded into a whole book.
  • Similarly Named Works: Beyond some loose similarities in subject matter, the series has nothing at all to do with Ninth House despite the similar name and both it and Gideon the Ninth being released in Fall 2019.
  • Tribute to Fido: Noodle, the six-legged dog in Nona the Ninth is a tribute to Muir's late dog, and as such is described by her as "the most important dog in the universe". The one and only spoiler she gave for Nona the Ninth was that "nothing goes fundamentally wrong for the dog".
  • What Could Have Been: Muir's notes at the end of Gideon the Ninth note several precursor names to major characters that were later changed, as well as some elements that were removed.
    • Coronabeth and Ianthe were at one point Cainabeth and Abella, which Muir notes was so unsubtle she might as well have called them "Goodtwin" and "Badtwin".
    • Palamedes was Diomedes at one point, but this was changed to set up for a joke Gideon makes.
    • Colum's name derives from a theme naming with his brothers (they're all named after a type of sacrificial animal), but the references to their names ended up cut because one is 'Capris' and the fact that that's also the name for short pants was too much.
