Trivia / The Last Days of Coney Island

Go To

  • Copiously Credited Creator: Ralph animated the entire film by himself and also painted all of the backgrounds by himself, too!
  • In Memoriam: The ending credits has a large list dedicated to dozens of the Golden Age animators Ralph Bakshi worked under and with in his past, including Irv Spence, Connie Rasinski, Jim Tyer, Rod Scribner, Johnny Gentilella and many, many others.
  • No Budget: One of the reasons development slowed on the film was Bakshi's constant tightening of the budget in an effort to create the whole film with as small a team as possible on two home computers. At one point, the budget didn't even leave three figures!
  • Saved from Development Hell: Ralph announced the project sometime around in 2005. It stayed here for eight years up until the kickstarter project to help obtain funding he needed to complete the film.
  • What Could Have Been
    • Bakshi originally planned to animate the film "tradigitally." His son Eddie, himself an animator, had showed him how to use Toon Boom Studio, and the prospect of having what originally took a staff of 200 and a huge budget "in a box" greatly excited Ralph. This got thrown out when the film got into development problems.
    • A team of five animators was originally hired to animate the film, but Bakshi eventually decided the subject matter was so personal to him, so he let them go and animated the entire thing by himself.
