Glory Game Mechanics

  • New characters can learn skills from any of the 24 different sub-Character Classes of 6 major classes for players to familiarize with, but upon reaching Character Level 20, they can choose a specific designation.
    • Fighter: Brawler, Grappler, Qi Master, Striker
    • Gunner: Launcher, Mechanic, Sharpshooter, Spitfire
    • Mage: Battle Mage, Elementalist, Summoner, Witch
    • Night Walker: Assassin, Ninja, Thief, Warlock
    • Priest: Cleric, Exorcist, Knight, Paladin
    • Swordsman: Blade Master, Berserker, Ghost Blade, Spellblade
  • Characters who don't choose any designation at level 20, the "Unspecialized", can learn level 20 and below skills from all 24 sub-classes. This results in them having access to around 120 low-level skills.

League Rules

  • The top twenty teamsnote  ranked in the "Glory Professional Alliance" compete in the regular season for a chance to enter the championship playoffs, of which only eight teams with the highest points scored throughout the season can qualify. Playoffs are done in an elimination-style bracket.
  • Once the current season ends, the two lowest ranked teams of the twenty in the regular season will be given relegation status, sending them to the "Challengers League", filled with up-and-coming and ex-Professional Alliance teams; however, a team in the Challengers League has a chance to enter the Professional Alliance for the next season by winning the overall Challengers League through an annual tournament, nicknamed the "Revival Tournament". Meanwhile, teams that meet certain pre-requisites, while simultaneously be given approval by the league, may garner a chance to be added into the Glory Professional Alliance for the next regular season, without having to participate in the Revival Tournament.
  • Rules regarding fouls and penalties
    • A yellow card is issued if a player violates the rules during an official match. Upon the same player's second infraction during the current match, another yellow card is handed to the player, resulting in an instant red card.
    • A red card is issued if a player has received a total of two yellow cards during a match or a player has committed an egregious foul during the match. Players handed a red card are immediately expelled from the current match and is banned for the next match. Depending on the player's actions that resulted in the red card, the league can extend the ban as it sees fit.
  • In the event that Glory's developers increase the Level Cap during the midst of an on-going season, matches will be postponed to allow all teams the chance to level up their character accounts and get accustomed to newly acquired skills.
  • All competing players must attend mandatory post-match press conferences; the losing team will be interviewed first, followed by the winning team. If both teams played to a draw, the away team will attend first, followed by the home team. Any player failing to attend these press conferences will be fined by the league.

Revival Tournament

  • To participate, teams in the Challengers League must have enough members and pay a participation fee.
  • The first part of the tournament is played online as a single elimination-style bracket - one loss results in instant elimination. During this online portion, teams are allowed to adjust their roster as they see fit. The winner of each match is determined by the total number of points obtained.
  • Once there are 20 teams remaining, the second part of the tournament begins, with teams split into four equal groups of five and matches are played offline in another single elimination-style bracket. Prior to the start of the second portion, there is a 3-month gap to give teams enough time to prepare against their opponents. During this part of the tournament, all matches will be played at the City B arena, with maps designated by the league.
  • The top two teams in each group will head into the playoffs in a final single elimination-style bracket. The team who wins the tournament is "revived" into the Glory Professional Alliance at the start of the next season.
  • Note that unlike the Professional Alliance, players in the Challengers League are allowed to use potions once for the duration of the Revival Tournament.

Regular Season

  • Competition in the regular season is divided into three formats per match:
    • Individual Challenge - three players from both teams are placed into three separate 1-on-1 match-ups, one occurring after another; whoever wins their match-up is awarded one point for their team, up to a maximum of three points for this Challenge.
    • Group Challenge - three players from both teams are pitted against their opponents in a 3-on-3 environment; if one player is defeated, their teammate on the team's active roster is allowed to replace them. The winning team is the one that's left standing, having defeated all members of the opposing team, and is awarded two points.
    • Team Challenge - a 5-on-5 elimination-based battle with the addition of a sixth substitute player on each team. If one player is eliminated, that player's team may have the substitute enter combat; however, they must enter from the exchange area. Furthermore, this substitute player's health, equipment and Mana upon entering the field will be in a cooldown state. Five points will be awarded to the surviving team once the opposing team's players are eliminated.

Playoffs

  • The team ranked first in the regular season will play against the eighth-ranked, second against seventh, third against sixth and fourth against fifth.
  • For each match-up, teams will play a best-of-three games - one home and one away, with the higher ranked team playing the away game first. Home teams are allowed to designate which maps to use during the match, and will remain unknown to the away teams until the match begins. In the event both teams win one game each, the third game will be played at the home team. Maps, on the other hand, will be chosen randomly by the league rather than the home team in the third game.
  • Playoff matches are split into two formats:
    • Group Challenge - similar to Individual Challenge during the regular season, five players from both teams are placed into five separate 1-on-1 match-ups, one occurring after another; however, if one player is defeated, they will be replaced by their teammate who comes after them. The winner is the last team standing and are awarded five points, while the other team earn points equivalent to the number of opposing players they defeated throughout the Challenge.
    • Team Challenge - using the same rules from the regular season, except this Challenge is under a time limit. Teams can earn upwards of six points, one for each surviving player on the team before time expires or upon defeating all of the opposing team's players.

Tropes

  • Acting for Two: Bian Jiang voices both Zhang Xinjie and Su Muqiu in the donghua.
  • Box Office Bomb: Prequel movie For The Glory grossed a little under $12 million USD, an unremarkable amount when compared against 3D animated movie Ne Zha with over a whopping $700 million USD gross and holds China's 2019 box office record. According to Tencent, they had hoped that developing The King's Avatar property through different mediums (Web Novel, Animated Adaptation, Live-Action Adaptation) could have paid off, but with the flop of For The Glory, it seems unlikely another movie will ever be made again.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Despite what multiple Anime reviewers may be saying, the Animated Adaptation for The King's Avatar is not a "Chinese ripoff" of Sword Art OnlineExplanation , particularly when the setting of The King's Avatar is primarily focused on the Real Life "eSports" professional scene, something Sword Art Online does not have.
  • Cross-Regional Voice Acting: The Latin American Spanish dub of For The Glory film was dubbed by The Kitchen in Miami, using voice actors from Mexico, Argentina and Venezuela.
  • "Do It Yourself" Theme Tune: Zhang Jie, who voices Ye Xiu, also sings the first opening theme song of the donghua.
  • No Dub for You: A rather odd case: None of the visual adaptations had a dubbed version on any language... with the sole bizarre exception of For The Glory prequel film, which was dubbed to Latin American Spanish for the free streaming service Tubi TV and Japanese for theaters. Considering the film was a failure in its native China, it's very likely the dub was done in order to recoup costs from the film in some way or another.
  • Role Reprise: Some of the voice actors of the Animated Adaptation voice their characters in the audio drama adaptation of the novel, including dubbing over their actors for the live-action series.
  • Those Two Guys: The actors for Yu Wenzhou and Huang Shaotian (Gao Hanyu and Jiang Long, respectively) had previously worked together in the drama S.C.I. Mystery.
