Trivia / The Green Ray

Go To

  • Creator Breakdown: In the months before he started work on this film, several people close to Éric Rohmer died, including his longtime friend and colleague François Truffaut, Pascale Ogier (the star of his previous film Full Moon In Paris), and Gerard Falconetti (who committed suicide), a frequent supporting player in Rohmer's films. This no doubt contributed to the film's melancholy tone.
  • The Danza: Béatrice Romand as Béatrice.
  • Similarly Named Works: The Jules Verne novel The Green Ray, which gets mentioned in the film and inspires the final scene.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Noting how critics always accused him of writing overly literary dialogue, Rohmer decided to have this film's dialogue improvised by the actors.
