  • Content Leak: A workprint of the first leaked from a subtitling company and became a piracy hit. While it helped the movie become a cultural phenomenon, the box office success would certainly be higher if lots of people hadn't watched it illegally (tickets sold: 2.4 million; estimated viewership of the workprint: 11.5 million, which is about the same quantity of tickets sold by the sequel).
  • The Danza:
    • André Ramiro plays André Matias.
    • In the sequel, Sandro Rocha plays Major Rocha.
  • Dawson Casting: While the first film is set in 1997 (when John Paul II visited Brazil), the second one is set in the Present Day, that is, 2010. However, Nascimento's son, who was born in the end of the first film, is played by a 16-year old, meaning that either the film is set 20 Minutes into the Future or that he's Younger Than He Looks.
  • Dueling Dubs: In Latin America there's two dubbed versions of both films: A Mexican Spanish one dubbed exclusively for Mexico (as Mexican laws requires foreign films released in theaters to be dubbed there by Mexican actors) and an Argentinian Spanish one for everyone else in the region. Keep in mind traditionaly Brazilian media producers tends to dub their properties in South American countries rather than Mexico due to Brazil's geographical closeness with the rest of Spanish-speaking South America, albeit this is starting to be zig-zagged at times.
  • Throw It In!: Because filming in slums means getting drug dealer permission, some were present during production. And at least once they chimed in: while filming the execution inside rubber tires scene, a criminal asked them to stop noting the victims usually scream copiously, and the actors made sure to follow the advice during the following take.
