Trivia / The Division

  • Development Hell: The game was first teased and announced in 2013, but the game wouldn't have been released until three years later, due to a number of delays.
  • Fake American: British John Hopkins as American Aaron Keener.
  • Hey, It's That Place!: The Brooklyn Division safehouse is in the exact same building as the Illuminati HQ in The Secret World.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The companion app was supposed to be used by players to help their friends by using drones to conduct air strikes. It was removed when the developers realized that it could make things unfair in multiplayer matches.
    • Other enemy types were supposed to be included, such as soldiers from various criminal gangs and hostile dogs under their command.
    • The design of the game HUD changed from being accessed by SHD smartwatch to the game menu in the background.
    • Names of actual agencies were used prior to changing them to their fictional names such as FEMA to CERA.
    • The Banshee's Shadow set used to be called B.L.I.N.D. and was actually available for play during Patch 1.3's test period. Its 4 piece set activated whenever the player killed an enemy, dropping a flashbang at their position. The B.L.I.N.D. system battle rifle was also designed to compliment the set, doing extra damage to blinded enemies. After the end of the test period, it was scrapped and reworked into the Dark Zone-focused sest it is today in response to player feedback (mainly, it was too hard to blind anything since enemies rolled out of the way much like manually thrown grenades) and the B.L.I.N.D. system battle rifle ended up becoming the Urban MDR, which deals more damage against targets with any status effect. Oddly enough, the outfit and weapon skin developed alongside the set still retain the B.L.I.N.D. name on them to this day.
    • Central Park was planned to become a playable area, as evidenced by whiteboard signs in Dark Zone North checkpoints reading CP01, CP02 and CP03.
