• Creator Cameo: Director James Burrows appears as the director of Valerie's new show.
• The Danza: Middle name variety. Lisa Kudrow's middle name is Valerie.
• I Am Not Spock: Lisa Kudrow claims that many viewers (including her own friends) thought it was an actual reality show about her life.
• Irony as She Is Cast: Valerie and her director are at each other's throats in the show. Lisa Kudrow and James Burrows get along very well in real life.
• Sequel Gap: The second season was produced nearly ten years after the first one had aired.
• Throw It In!: The writing process was largely built around Lisa Kudrow improvising Valerie's dialogue and actions, and the crew transcribing it.
• Uncanceled: After the show achieved cult status, HBO ordered eight new episodes to air in late 2014... nine years after the show was cancelled!
• What Could Have Been:
  • The original script had Valerie and Mark in a Sexless Marriage. Producers changed their minds, feeling that such a thing would be too brutal a fate for Valerie. Word of God is that they wanted the audience to know that "the character had love, but was choosing to walk in front of a train instead."
  • Vanessa Marano really wanted to return for the second season, but she was committed to Switched At Birth at the time.
