    • JD Evermore filmed scenes as Ethan's father but they were cut, turning him into The Ghost in the film.
  • Duelling Movies: With the second remake of Carrie. Both films are based on novels about misunderstood teenage girls with supernatural abilities, released in 2013. They were originally slated for release within a month of each other, but Carrie was pushed back to October in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting.
  • Fake American: Brits Emma Thompson and Jeremy Irons as Mrs Lincoln and Macon respectively.
  • Follow the Leader: The film was green-lit as an attempt to fill the void of "teen paranormal romance" films left behind once the last Twilight film was released.
  • Genre-Killer: The film was one of the three films whose failure at the box-office killed the paranormal subgenre of YA Novel adaptations that seemed to be on its way out as far back as late 2010.

  • Money, Dear Boy: Jeremy Irons did the film to pay for his castle.
  • Still Born Franchise: The film’s box office failure has doomed any chances of seeing the three other books in the series being adapted into sequels. Fans wouldn't have cared due to not liking how executives handled the film.
  • Throw It In!: Ethan trying to recite the poem to Lena and getting it wrong was actually Alden Ehrenreich getting his lines out of order, and Alice Englert Corpsing is genuine. He got the poem right on all the other takes but they chose to use that one.
  • What Could Have Been: Jack O'Connell was originally cast as Ethan but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict.
