This was one of network president James T. Aubrey's "bosoms, broads and fun" series. He believed Viewers Are Morons. CBS chairman Bill Paley wanted more intelligent TV and despised this show; "The Smiling Cobra", though acknowledging Paley usually had an instinct about these things, put it on anyway. Aubrey was responsible for the long string of fantasy and rural sitcoms along with fast-moving detective dramas at CBS. If you think your grandparents' TV was innocent, watch these shows in reruns.
