- Playing Against Type: This film was made in the middle of Sidney Poitier's golden age of iconic film roles, most of which were stories in which race relations were seriously addressed (In the Heat of the Night, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner,To Sir, with Love, Lilies of the Field). But in this film, his character's race is a complete non-issue and isn't even mentioned.
- What Could Have Been: Woody Allen was offered the part of Merlin Queffle, but turned it down.
