• Dawson Casting: Ned Vaughn (36) as Al Jardine and Fred Weller (34) as Brian Wilson, though both actors were fairly close to their real-life equivalents' ages at the end of the series.
• Dyeing for Your Art: Kevin Dunn and Fred Weller, who, for the most part, affected the same unmistakable voices as Murry and Brian Wilson, respectively.
• Suspiciously Similar Song: The Charles Manson scenes in Part 2 feature an instrumental number with very similar chords and guitar licks as Cream's "Strange Brew," as well as a slightly tweaked version of The Beatles' "Helter Skelter" where the singer appears to be screaming unintelligible gibberish in the place of the original song's lyrics.
