Trivia / The Alvin Show

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Ross Bagdasarian voices all three Chipmunks, Dave, and Sam Valiant.
  • Bad Export for You: Even to this day, one of the only ways to watch “The Alvin Show” legally would be through Buena Vista’s Sing-Along VHS tapes. Unfortunately, the segments on these VHS tapes were slightly edited in order to form a more cohesive sing-along experience. For example, during the “Ragtime Cowboy Joe” segment in the show, the director character has a prominent role, as he bridges the gap between why Dave and the Chipmunks are in the wild west. The Seville crew actually drive into town in a fancy car in the show. It is made blatantly obvious in the show segment that this song is staged in the Wild West, thus making the director and camera crew notable side characters in the segment. On the VHS release, it cuts into the song after we see an introductory segment of the Chipmunks storming into a Western saloon (looking tough), making it seem like the Chipmunks naturally belong in the Wild West. This causes some confusion during the musical segment, when the director character is just…there, in the background. For no reason.
  • Cross-Dressing Voice:
    • June Foray does Alvin's angelic self in "Alvin's Alter Ego".
    • Alvin in the Italian and Japanese dubs.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: There's never been a complete compilation tape/DVD or box set containing all the episodes. There exists only two Sing-Along VHS tapes (which just have some of the musical segments), and only 3 episodes (out of 26 total) have been officially released on DVD. Apparently, the reason for this is because of rights issues—the rights to the Chipmunks franchise is split up between the children of Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. Ross Bagdasarian Jr. owns the newer chipmunks outright, but not the rights to the original Alvin Show. On top of that, restoring the entire show would be very expensive and there would be so little money in return to split between all the siblings, that they feel it isn't even worth the effort.
  • Non-Singing Voice: In "Squares," for the majority of the segment Mrs. Frumpington is voiced by actress Lee Patrick. But for her crazy song and dance number at the end, June Foray did her voice.
  • Orphaned Reference: The musical segments used the Chipmunks' original recordings and many of them went unaltered. In "Sing a Goofy Song", Dave's line "Will you keep singing? The record isn't over with yet!" is somehow left intact.
  • Vindicated by Reruns
