Trivia / The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police

Go To

  • Enforced Method Acting: According to a tweet by Robert Tinkler (the voice of Max), Steve Purcell had him and Harvey Atkin (the voice of Sam) live together to perfect the domestic aspect of Sam and Max's relationship.
  • Executive Meddling: The changing of "The Geek" into a girl, from the fairly standard male nerd design he had in the Series Bible, because the executives wanted a major female cast member. In fact, the executives suggested turning Max into a girl. In regard to the firearms, however, it worked out better; in lieu of handguns, the two used bazookas, flamethrowers, and tanks at the drop of a hat. Word of God was that this was a change for the better, as it allowed for an insane amount of cartoon violence; after all, why simply shoot the bad guys when you can blow them up in seven different ways?
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: "Christmas Bloody Christmas" only aired once on Fox, and was never included in the reruns. The series as a whole wasn't widely available after the original run, and it wasn't until the Gametap and DVD releases (2005 and 2008 respectively) that it got out of this.
    • While the Latino Spanish dub was released on VHS and can be easily found online, the same can't be said of the Castilian Spanish dub. Nothing of it has surfaced, and the only evidence proving its existence is this 1999 article talking about Disney Channel acquiring Nelvana's programs for Spain and Italy.
    • The series received two Portuguese dubs for Brazil and Portugal. The Brazilian dub ran on Fox Kids and Rede Globo under the title of As Aventuras de Sam e Max, while the European Portuguese version was titled Sam e Max - Detectives Independentes and aired on Canal Panda. No footage survives of either dub, and searching for them will only bring up fansubbed English episodes.
  • Recursive Adaptation: The show had its own comic books back when Fox Kids had a magazine, the show of course being adapted from Steve Purcell's comics.
  • Screwed by the Network: On the Fox Kids run, at least. It premiered in October 1997 at 11:00 AM, dropped after a month, returned the following February at 3:30 PM on Fridays, then moved back to Saturdays in April at 11:30 AM. Needless to say, there was no season 2.
