  • Creator Backlash:
    • Vincent does not like most of Continent due to the lyrical content, which, as per him, was written during a bad time in his life that he doesn't enjoy revisiting. On their fall 2018 full-album tour, he made a point of stating that once the tour was over, they were never, ever going to play most of those songs again for that exact reason.
    • Vincent's old stage banter. In the 2010s, he has repeatedly decried crowdkilling, hatemoshing, and people generally being violent, destructive assholes at shows, and he has, by extent, also expressed regret over some of the shit that he used to say onstage that endorsed and encouraged that behavior.
  • Creator's Oddball: It Comes in Waves is a post-metal album heavily influenced by Neurosis, Cult of Luna, and Inter Arma, with multiple instances of clean vocals, a more guttural harsh vocal approach from Vincent, lengthy atmospheric passages, and a general dearth of breakdowns. Word of God is that it was an attempt to explore a different set of influences and was not reflective of a permanent stylistic shift. The same wound up being true for Failure Will Follow, which was a sludge metal album that was written around the same time as Step Into the Light.
  • Screwed by the Network: Vincent has hinted that Prosthetic Records pulled this with them in general, if his comments about a vinyl reissue of Wormwood that was apparently not authorized by the band are any indication.
  • Write What You Know: The Shidaker-era lyrical content has taken a turn for this; Vincent made a point of referring to the Laskiewicz-era lyrics as some sort of dark, pissed-off fantasy universe and creative writing exercise that was influenced by his personal life, but did not chronicle it, while the Shidaker-era lyrics are more direct and personal ruminations on the realities of aging and the introspection that comes with being famous and having a legacy, but also having a day-to-day life to live.
