Trivia / Stryper

Go To

  • Black Sheep Hit: As with many Hair Metal bands of The '80s, their biggest hit was a Power Ballad ("Honestly").
  • False Credit: Tim Gaines was fired during the production of To Hell with the Devil and bass on the album was handled by Bill Cobb. Gaines was rehired for the tour and is credited on the album as a bassist.
  • Mid-Development Genre Shift: They were still a secular metal band when they signed with Enigma Records, but became explicitly Christian before they recorded their debut. It sold so well that the label wasn't really in a position to object to the change.
  • Old Shame: Michael Sweet has said that he wasn't completely happy with how Against the Law turned out, saying that it was recorded during a tough time with the band. He has lightened up on it recently though and songs from it have been performed live again recently.
  • What Could Have Been: Before he joined fellow Enigma Records band Poison, C.C. Deville auditioned for Stryper and got an offer to join, but said no, in part because he didn't want to wear a yellow-and-black striped Spandex outfit.
