Trivia / Star Trek: Voyager S7E23 "Endgame"

  • Acting for Two: Kate Mulgrew as both versions of Janeway.
  • Deleted Scene: Commander Chakotay and both Janeways are at dinner. They speak about their adventures and, thereafter keeping the discussion between herself and Chakotay, Admiral Janeway is pleased he has found romance with Seven of Nine. Chakotay is at first surprised to discover the admiral is aware of the relationship. He is reticent to discuss it in the company of his captain but eventually admits to the admiral, privately, that his relationship with Seven is going "great."
  • Executive Meddling:
    • Paramount dictated that the finale had to end right as Voyager arrived home at Earth and could not have any of the regular characters be killed, due to the then-recent success of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine relaunch novels, and Paramount wanting to leave open the maximum number of possibilities for the eventual relaunch novels for this series.
    • It was also mandated by The Powers That Be were that the story involve both time travel and a showdown with the Borg — though in this case the writers admitted they would probably have gone down that road anyway, given how important the Borg had become to the show's story arc by this point, and how they felt certain plot issues could only be properly addressed via time travel.
  • The Original Darrin: Alice Krige returns to reprise her Star Trek: First Contact role as the Borg Queen after Susanna Thompson played her in previous Voyager appearances.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • An ending whereby Voyager would be locked into a time loop and forced to repeat its journey across the galaxy for all eternity was apparently considered at one point, and even widely reported on the internet in early 2001 as being how the series would end, but the idea was squashed early on by UPN, who were opposed to the series having a Downer Ending of any sort.
    • When the producers eventually settled on the storyline they went with, there was still some debate as to whether to have Voyager actually get back to Earth during the finale, or have an And the Adventure Continues ending by using the time travel elements to confirm that Voyager would make it home someday, but it would be many years after the series ended. They ultimately decided that the fans wouldn't be satisfied with the latter ending, and then it got rendered moot when Paramount applied an Executive Veto to any thoughts of Voyager not returning to Earth in the finale.
  • You Look Familiar: Of course Vaughn Armstrong would come back one more time.
