• Creator Backlash: Robert Beltran wasn't happy with the way Chakotay's storyline with Tom Paris wound up.
• Promoted Fanboy: King Abdullah II of Jordan is a big fan of the franchise, which is why he appeared in a non-speaking cameo for this episode when he was still Crown Prince.
• Recycled Script: As Seska did in "State of Flux", Jonas tries to hide his subspace communications, throw off suspicion by getting injured, and frame another party as the spy.
• Troubled Production: For Raphael Sbarge (Jonas), who legitimately hurt himself during the climactic fight scene, including slicing open his finger and bruising his ribs. That said, he loved working with Ethan Phillips.
• What Could Have Been: Believe it or not, the original idea was for the episode to be set entirely within "A Briefing With Neelix," and have the whole story told from Neelix's point of view. Paramount studio executives rejected it outright, and insisted on seeing more of "Tom being a hero." Even executive producer Jeri Taylor admitted that the Executive Meddling improved the episode.
