• Technology Marches On: When Janeway asks why Voyager didn't pick up the SOS before finding the truck, Harry points out that as a standard radio signal it only travels at the speed of light, and the ship's communications array isn't configured to automatically detect transmissions that slow.
• What Could Have Been: This episode was originally intended to be the Season 1 finale, hence the Line in the Sand decision where the crew decide whether to continue with their adventures or settle down on the planet, but UPN decided for some reason to move it to the second season.
