- What Could Have Been:
- David Warner was approached by the producers for the role of Akorem Laan. According to Ira Steven Behr, Warner wanted to do the role, but his wife talked him out of it, as they were on a vacation.
- Ronald D. Moore and Rene Echevarria were so impressed by Jane Espenson's work on the episode that they advocated having her join the show as a full-time staff writer. However, no vacancy would open until the end of the following season, by which point Espenson had instead become a staff writer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Moore would instead work with her on Battlestar Galactica (2003) and Caprica.
