Trivia / Squid Girl

Go To

  • Amateur Cast:
    • Zig-zagged in the Latin American Spanish dub, as the dub used a mix of newcomers, like Yanitze Ramirez (Squid Girl), Sebastian Albavera (Takeru), together with some long-time veterans like Mario Castañeda (Clark), Carlos Segundo (Harris), Gerardo Reyero (Martin), Desireé González (Kiyomi) and others.
    • Played straight in the Brazilian Portuguese dub, as the dub is done by newcomer voice actors from the city of Curitiba.
  • Channel Hop: In North American markets, at least, the series has jumped from Media Blasters to Sentai Filmworks.
  • Children Voicing Children: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Takeru Aizawa is voiced by Sebastian Albavera, who was 12 years old at the time.
  • Dueling Dubs: Media Blasters dubbed the first season in cooperation with Bang Zoom! Entertainment, and Sentai Filmworks dubbed the second season, both for North American markets, while Animax dubbed both seasons in Asia.
  • Follow the Leader: To Sgt. Frog, down to having Expies of Fuyuki, Natsumi and Aki. And a Verbal Tic, de arimasu. Interestingly, Sgt. Frog sometimes features an underwater civilization that could execute a far more effective invasion if need be.
  • Role Reprise: In Sentai Filmworks' English dub of season 2, the supporting cast has been replaced with their pool of actors, aside from the title character who's once again played by Christine Marie Cabanos.
  • Series Hiatus: Season 2 barely started before the show had to be placed off the air for two weeks, citing "a situation with the studio", to the disappointment of many. Two of the TV networks broadcasting the second season started two weeks late and did not go on hiatus at all; the overall effect was that the subsequent episodes premiered on the same day on every station.
  • Star-Making Role: The role of Ika Musume was what allowed Hisako Kanemoto to ascend to fame.
  • The Other Darrin: The 2nd season of Squid Girl dub done by Sentai Filmworks was done in-house at Houston with their own voice actors, with Christine Marie Cabanos as the only voice actress to reprise her role as the titular character. Coincidentally, this makes the 2nd season dub of Squid Girl to be the first English dub done by Sentai Filmworks to cast a Los Angeles based voice actor in their own Houston studio (across from their occasional use of Vic Mignogna in minor roles).
  • What Could Have Been: Media Blasters had plans to dub season 2, but cancelled it and never got around to it before the rights lapsed. Sentai Filmworks later dubbed season two, though with only one person from the first season's dub returning; hard to say whether or not Media Blasters would've still had Bang Zoom! Entertainment still handling the dub.
