  • Actor Allusion:
  • Actor-Shared Background: Lucky is mestiza (that is, of Caucasian/European from her father and indigenous Mexican descent from her mother). Her voice actress in the show, Amber Frank, is of Latino descent, and her voice actress in the movie, Isabela Moner, is white from her father and Latino from her mother.
  • Adored by the Network: While it is standard procedure for Dreamworks to end a cartoon after a set order, Spirit has managed to continue past its first order with a variety of new shows and has become the first Netflix original series to get a theatrical production.
  • Children Voicing Children: Most of the child characters are voiced by actors and actresses who are only a few years older than their characters.
    • Abigail, Lucky and Pru, who are all 12 years old during the events of the first few seasons, are voiced respectively by Bailey Gambertoglio (16 at the show's start), Amber Frank (18 at the start), and Sydney Park (19 at the start).
    • Similarly, Maricela is voiced by Darcy Rose Byrnes (18 at the start of production).
  • Common Knowledge:
    • Lucky is believed by non-viewers to be Caucasian-American due to the frequency of Caucasian protagonists in "horse girl" media and her father being seen in promotional material as Caucasian-American. She's actually mestiza — for starters, her late mother was Mexican, Lucky’s full name is Fortuna Esperanza Navarro Prescott — with Lucky being only her nickname — and her voice actress Amber Frank is of Latino descent.
    • That the indigenous one-off character is Little Creek; he is Mixtli, an original character to the show, although his character design is inspired from Little Creek.
  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Eleanor Kimble uses a wheelchair like her actress, Cassidy Huff.
  • He Also Did: Showrunner Aury Wallington wrote for Gravity Falls, which also has Ginny McSwain as the voice director.
  • The Other Darrin: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Lucky's voice actress (Melissa Gedeon) was shifted to Monserrat Aguilar starting with Season 3.
  • Recursive Adaptation: Movie —> Animated series —> Movie
  • Sequel Gap: Coming in at 15 years after the release of the movie, this is the first 2D-era Dreamworks Animation film to get any modern attention. The Movie comes 19 years after the original Spirit.
  • What Could Have Been: According to Christian Lanz, Mayor Gutierrez originally had a stronger Latino accent, but for whatever reason, Christian was asked to not do it.
