** In ''ComicBook/Scrapnik Island'', an enraged Mecha Sonic shouts "I'LL CRUSH YOU!!!" at a group of Scrapniks, confirmed by writer Daniel Barnes to be a ShoutOut to the version of Mecha Sonic from ''WebAnimation/SuperMarioBrosZ''.

* AscendedMeme: Some people got both [[https://youtu.be/VwtWmhE_uXI?feature=shared Jason Griffith]] and [[https://youtube.com/shorts/5UDPHHZq2Wg?feature=shared Roger Craig Smith]] to say the [[MemeticMutation infamous "Big Oof" line]].

** Early in the book's run, characters exclusive to the classic universe (e.g. Mighty, Ray, Nack/Fang, Bean, and Bark) were barred from showing up in the mainline comic, due to Sega not wanting to mix content from the "Classic" and "Modern" games. Around late-2022 and 2023, this was slowly overturned, where elements from the classic games, like ''Sonic Mania'''s Mirage Saloon Zone and Mecha Sonic from ''Sonic 3'' made appearances in the "Modern" continuity as a location and a major character in the main book and ''Scrapnik Island'' mini-series. While ''WebAnimation/{{TailsTube}}'' would confirm the classic characters are still active in the present day, the main book has yet to show modern interpretations of these classic characters.

** A fan on Twitter was curious about Shadow's behavior in Issue 19 and asked Ian about it. Ian stated that initially he wanted Shadow to take off his inhibitor rings to fight against the Zombot hordes, but he soon finds that they're even resistant to ''that'' and quickly gets infected. When presented to Sega, they refused to allow it since they didn't feel it was within Shadow's character.

* ProductionPosse: Ian Flynn and Tracey Yardley, two people who worked on the Archie version of Sonic, came back for the new version. Creator/TysonHesse, who worked on the unfinished spin-off comic ''ComicBook/SonicMegaDrive'', will moonlight on the book now and then. Evan Stanley, Jennifer Hernandez and Matt Herms were likewise confirmed to be returning as well.

However, as of 2022, this stance has changed, as Sonic would namedrop Tangle in ''VideoGame/SonicFrontiers'', and on the November 14, 2022, episode of the [=BumbleKast=] podcast, Creator/IanFlynn would go on to confirm that the IDW comics are now regarded to be canon to the games (albeit in a LooseCanon sense).
* GodDoesNotOwnThisWorld: While Creator/IanFlynn is the head writer for the comics, he makes it very clear on the [=BumbleKast=] that Creator/{{Sega}} and Creator/SonicTeam have the final say on things and that his personal opinions, wants, and ideas are just that, ''personal'', and are not meant to be taken as official. At the end of the day, ''Sonic the Hedgehog'' is the property of Sega and Sonic Team, so their wants and desires for the comic overwrite anything that he and the rest of IDW's staff might want.

** Once the comic license left Archie's hands, there was ''a lot'' of speculation that Sega would take it to IDW since that company is a haven for comic books for licensed series (Boom Studios being another one). It was soon confirmed not a day after the news Archie had cancelled their own Sonic comic that IDW had become the new home for the blue blur's printed adventures.
** Most people correctly guessed that the mysterious villain behind the chair at the end of Issue #6 was [[spoiler:Neo Metal Sonic disguised as Eggman]].

** [[spoiler:Starline]] being the hooded figure in “Chao Races and Badnik Bases”. Even without the LateArrivalSpoiler RI cover for Issue #35, fans were able to correctly guess his identity with details ranging from the outline of his boots, Rouge recognizing him [[spoiler:from her time on the Faceship during the Metal Virus saga]], and him glowing the same tri-color scheme as the symbol in the logo of the ''Bad Guys'' miniseries that was being published at the same time as the arc in the main book, [[spoiler:which was later revealed to be Starline’s Tricore he obtained in that miniseries.]]
** Plenty guessed that Belle [[spoiler:was a creation of Mr. Tinker (Eggman while under amnesia)]], which was made pretty obvious due to sporting his dress colors and her mention of finding her "father". Issue #40[[note]]which was spoiled in some preview pages[[/note]] ultimately confirms it.

** In 2021, IDW published two comics set within the Classic Sonic timeline known as the ''Sonic the Hedgehog: 30th Anniversary Special'', which was made to [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin celebrate the blue blur's 30th anniverary]]. This included one big anthology issue and one for Free Comic Book Day[[note]]both were bundled together in a singular trade paperback that released in the same year[[/note]].

** The first issue got re-printed in 2023 to celebrate the comic's 5th Anniversary, which included a brand-new story that sees Sonic revisiting the same town introduced in the first issue.
