Trivia / Son of Godzilla

• Accidentally Correct Zoology: Godzilla, a dinosaurian kaiju, is portrayed as an adoptive Papa Wolf for Minilla, even if he's a bit grouchy about doing so. Keep in mind this was a handful of years before the discovery of the hadrosaur Maiasaura, which revealed that most dinosaurs were indeed caring, loving parents to their offspring.
• Hey, It's That Sound!: Kamacuras' shriek was recycled from the popular Ultraseven kaiju Eleking.
• Keep Circulating the Tapes: This and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla were among the only films to not get re-released by Kraken Releasing in 2014, making them some of the more valuable DVDs to get.
  • Averted with the Criterion box set, which makes it much more easier to obtain.
• Missing Trailer Scene: While he was a bit reluctant towards Minya after the battle with Spiga/Kumonga was over in the finished film, Godzilla actually tries to escape the freezing of Solgell Island in the trailer.
• The Other Darrin: This is the first film in which Haruo Nakajima doesn't play Godzilla.
  • Though, Nakajima does play Godzilla for all the scenes in the water.
• What Could Have Been: Shinichi Sekizawa and Kazue Shiba originally wrote and special effects director Sadamasa Arikawa originally shot scenes of Godzilla being far meaner to Minya than what appears in the final film. Footage still exists of Godzilla trying to urge the newborn Minya to get up and walk after the first battle with the Kamacuras. An outtake from the film was featured in a later "Crazy Cats" movie in which in order to stop Minya from following the humans, Godzilla headbutts him rather than just charging in front of him. An alternate ending was filmed in which after Kumonga is defeated, Godzilla does a Hidden Disdain Reveal and ditches Minya in the snow. He gets out into the frozen ocean before having a change of heart, then goes back to get Minya (he looks absolutely ashamed when he returns). Then, the ending plays out more or less as it does in the finished film. It is unknown who is responsible for toning down Godzilla's abject dickbaggery for the final cut. • You Look Familiar: Dr. Kusumi is played by Tadao Takashima, Goro is played by Akira Kubo, Fujisaki is Akihiko Hirata, Morio is Kenji Sahara, etc, etc...
