Trivia / Shaq Fu

Go To

  • Creator Killer:
    • Shaq Fu was one of a handful of attempts by Shaq to get into non-basketball entertainment courts, with several rap albums and two movies, Kazaam and Steel, on his agenda. Everything but the rap albums imploded, turned him into a butt of jokes, and ensured his first priority would be basketball above all else.
    • This game had basically ruined Delphine Software International's career. Pre-Shaq Fu, they were responsible for wildly innovative blockbuster hits such as Another World and Flashback. Post-Shaq Fu, they would limp through the rest of the decade mostly making forgettable motorcycle racing games before shutting down in 2002.
  • Old Shame: In the video promo for the sequel, Shaq fully admits the original game is terrible.
  • Pre-Order Bonus: In the original game's run, those who pre-ordered the game got special edition copies of Shaq's second album Shaq-Fu: Da Return, which came with an extra bonus track: "Stand and Deliver".
  • Sequel Gap: Development on the sequel started 20 years after the original game was made.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The first game was originally set to be a lot bloodier, and some Dummied Out sprites of much bloodier portraits exist in the coding.
    • A sequel (not the Sequel Gap one released in 2018) was announced for release around 1996 but never came to fruition.
    • As for the sequel that was released, it is clear that tons of changes had been made since the Indiegogo announcement, so much so that one could think that the project must have been restarted from scratch at some point. Most notably, Kaori was supposed to return from the original Shaq Fu, but was removed as the project took a far different turn than originally intended.
