Trivia / Schmigadoon!

Go To

  • All-Star Cast: In addition to two famed sketch comics as the leads, the Schmigadoonians are all played by famous performers with significant theater backgrounds/experience.
  • Playing Against Type: Kristin Chenoweth is well-known for playing perky blondes. She's the grim, brunette puritan Mildred Layton in Schmigadoon.
  • Playing Their Own Twin: The identical leprechaun brothers, Steve and Oscar, are both played by Martin Short.
  • Produced by Cast Member: Cecily Strong is one of the producers.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor:
    • Bisexual Alan Cumming portrays Mayor Menlove of Schmigadoon, whose homosexuality becomes more and more apparent as the season goes on.
    • Gay Tituss Burgess portrays the Narrator of Schmicago, who hooks up with Sgt. Rivera in the last episode.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The creators did want to have an actual dream ballet but could not accommodate the staging it. Therefore, the almost-dream ballet got watered down to a joke.
    • Season 1 was originally supposed to have 8 episodes, which was cut down to 6 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • One of the cut storylines extended Danny's ''Carousel'' roots by having him and a pal try to rob Josh to pay for a better life with Melissa.
    • It was also planned for Danny to reveal himself as Carson's father.
Cinco Paul: But ultimately it made him too much of a jerk & we loved Emma and Carson too much as their own unit.
    • In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Cinco Paul stated one of his bigger regrets of season 2 was an idea for a "journey song" inspired by "Ease On Down The Road" from The Wiz (and the lack of any really obvious Wiz references in general being one of his bigger regrets) that they could never find a place for since the plot involves everybody being trapped in a small town and therefore nobody does much travelling.
