Trivia / Saw

Go To

  • Absurdly Short Production Time: It took 18 days to shoot the film. This is the second-shortest filming time in the series thus far, only surpassed on a narrow margin by Saw IV's 17 days.
  • Acting for Two: Due to Sing and Amanda's actors not being available at times during filming, Adam's actor Leigh Whannell plays both of them in most shots where their faces are barely seen (a majority of which were re-takes out of unused shots with the regular actors), including just before Sing's death. For Amanda, Whannell also wore a wig.
  • Bonus Material: The movie's DVD includes a pseudo-documentary short film titled Full Disclosure Report. It plays out in the form of a TV program about the Jigsaw case, which airs a year after the movie's events.
  • Descended Creator:
    • Co-writer Leigh Whannell plays Adam. He would later play Adam again in Saw III, which he also wrote.
    • Executive producer Oren Koules plays Donnie Greco (the dormant man that Amanda had to kill in her test). His role wasn't cited in the cast listing of the film's credits.
  • Fake American: Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell, British and Australian respectively, play the two American leads.
  • No Budget: In the film's DVD commentary track, James Wan makes several references to how little money (and time) they had to make the movie.
  • Write Who You Know: According to James Wan in an interview, Zep was based on a real-life criminal he knew about who would break into homes and tickle the feet of children. The twist that Zep isn't the real Jigsaw (as well as Jigsaw's jigsaw puzzle symbology) was based on the fact that upon his arrest, the criminal said that he was being forced to tickle the children after he was sent a jigsaw puzzle piece as a post message.
