Trivia / Saved by the Bell: The New Class

Go To

  • The Cast Showoff: The Eric-oriented episodes were nothing more than an excuse to show off actor Anthony Harrell's singing voice. Most of his episodes usually revolved around him performing a song on stage. Harrell had actually been a final season cast member of Kids Incorporated, which, amusingly, actually featured former Saved by the Bell regular Mario Lopez during the first three seasons as a back-up dancer.
  • Dawson Casting: Christian Oliver (Brian) was 22 when he played a high school sophomore. More unusually the series had a 'Reverse' Dawson Casting where Ashley Lyn Cafagna (Liz) played a character slightly older than herself with Liz graduating in an episode that aired when Cafagna was only 16.
  • Fake Nationality: The German Christian Oliver played the Swiss Brian Keller in Season Two.
  • Franchise Zombie: Given the nostalgia for the original series leading to role reprisals on Fallon and the 2020 Peacock series, many are shocked to learn the spinoff series with multiple casts lasted seven seasons which have been mostly forgotten.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Once the series ended in 2000, it wasn't seen in syndication. Originally, the entire series was available to watch on the NBC website but when NBC moved all its content to its new streaming service, Peacock, The New Class didn't make the cut and is currently the only SBTB series that is unavailable to stream.
  • Out of Order:
    • In Season 4's "Renaissance Fair" has Katie accusing Maria of stealing Nicky from her. This a bit confusing since the episode where Nicky cheats on Katie with Maria, "The Last to Know", didn't air until after "Renaissance Fair", resulting in a major spoiler for audiences.
    • The season 5 two-parter where the kids help Habitat for Humanity build a house also appears out of order. The first part where the kids start to work on the house and meet the Reynolds family ("Putting Up Walls") is shown after the episode where they complete the house in time for Thanksgiving ("Thanks for Giving")
  • Recycled Set: The producers reused all of the sets from their USA Network series USA High for a group of season 5 episodes where the school sent the kids to Paris, France.
  • You Look Familiar:
    • Emmy and Golden Globe winning producer/writer Danny Strong had recurring roles as Noogie, a shady peddler with merchandise in his overcoat, and Stanley, one of the school's stereotypical nerds. He alternated between the two characters within the same season.
    • Frank Bonner (of WKRP in Cincinnati fame) had a recurring role in the country club episodes as Big Ed and then reappeared as teacher Mr. Spalding in "Big Sister Blues" (an episode he also directed).
