Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • All of the Sailor Guardians' voice actresses also play their Power Guardians in the original version and the various foreign dubs.
    • Besides reprising her role as Usagi/Sailor Moon/Neo Queen Serenity, Kotono Mitsuishi voiced Princess Lady Serenity in Helios's flashback.
    • In the English dub, Todd Haberkorn voices Rei's grandfather and Xenotime.
    • And in the Brazilian dub, Márcia Regina who voices Michiru/Sailor Neptune also voices Ami's mother.
  • All-Star Cast: Most of the Crystal voice actors return, this time with the additions of Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Taishi Murata, Nanao, Naomi Watanabe, Shouta Aoi, Satoshi Hino, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Reina Ueda, Sumire Morohoshi, Yuko Hara and Rie Takahashi.
  • B-Team Sequel: Kazuko Tadano takes over character design duties from Crystal designers Yukie Sako and Akira Takahashi.
  • Celebrity Voice Actor: For the Japanese release:
    • Comedian, actress and fashion designer Naomi Watanabe, best known for her impersonation of Beyoncé, voices Zirconia.
    • Nehellenia is voiced by actress and model Nanao.
  • Channel Hop:
    • The film was animated by Studio DEEN and series regular Toei Animation.
    • The duology streamed worldwide on Netflix as an original. Due to Netflix streaming the film in the first place, this is also the first Sailor Moon entry not to be streamed on Hulu, who streamed the original anime and Crystal.
    • Viz Media's North American release of the '90s anime and Crystal were dubbed at Studiopolis. For Eternal, it was instead dubbed at VSI Los Angeles.
    • The Latin American Spanish release was dubbed at Audiomaster Candiani instead of Dubbing House, due to the latter studio's shutdown on March 3, 2021.
    • The Italian release of Crystal was dubbed at Rome's La BiBi.it studio. For Eternal, it was instead dubbed at VSI Rome.
  • Children Voicing Children: Tenyo Vargas and Auri Maya, who respectively voiced Mamoru and Rei's younger selves in the Latin Spanish dub, were children at the time of its Netflix release.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Mamoru Chiba's younger self is voiced by a woman, Mutsumi Tamura.
  • Directed by Cast Member:
    • This time around, the English dub was directed by Todd Haberkorn, who voiced Rei's grandfather.
    • In the Latin American Spanish dub, Patricia Acevedo once again served as the ADR director and Usagi's voice actress.
    • In the German dub, Matthias von Stegmann is Helios's voice actor as well as the ADR director.
  • Disowned Adaptation: As with the Italian dub of Crystal, former Usagi/Sailor Moon actress Elisabetta Spinelli was dissatisfied with Netflix's creative choices for Eternal.
  • Dueling Works: Was in one with Majo Minarai wo Sagashite in regards to its' Japanese theatrical release, with both being films based on Toei Animation Magical Girl properties. Unfortunately, Sailor Moon Eternal was on the losing end of the duel, with the film opening at #9 due to strong competition (most notably Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba The Movie: Mugen Train, which was still breaking box office records at the time of its' release.) And unlike Sailor Moon Eternal, Majo Minarai wo Sagashite won the Best Animation Film Award at the 75th Mainichi Film Awards.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Since the 1990s anime was never aired in the Middle East (with the exception of Israel), Sailor Moon Eternal marks the debut of the Sailor Moon franchise in Arabic-speaking countries.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The films' international release date (after it's theatrical premieres in Japan) on June 3rd, just 27 days away from Usagi's birthdate (June 30th) and rather fittingly during the start of Pride Month, given the franchise's massive LGBT Fanbase.
  • Milestone Celebration: The first part of Eternal premiered on January 8, 2021, over eleven months before the 30th anniversary of Sailor Moon and the first appearance of the titular character.
  • No Export for You: Averted for the first time in years regarding any Sailor Moon anime in the UK with Eternal being streamed on UK Netflix. Also averted for the first time regarding about Sailor Moon in Arabic-speaking countries.
  • The Other Darrin: Since Eternal was released 26 years after SuperS, some characters appearing in both were inevitably recast:
    • In the Japanese version:
    • In the English dub:
      • Brian Beacock (who voiced Ail in Sailor Moon R) voices Helios instead of Chris Niosi due to the latter's temporary sabbatical from voice acting.
      • Todd Haberkorn voices Rei's grandfather instead of Michael Sorich, although the character’s design and personality are so distinctive from the original anime’s (matching the manga), he may as well be a different character.
    • In the Latin American Spanish dub:
      • Luis Daniel Ramírez does not reprise his past role as Helios, due to being banned from the dubbing studio, Audiomaster Candiani, following several accusations of sexual harassment. Thus, the role was recast with Luis Navarro.
      • Despite Patricia Acevedo coming back to voice Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, she's been replaced as Queen Serenity by Maggie Vera.
      • Sylvia Garcel, who dubbed Nehellenia in the '90s anime, retired in 2015. For Eternal, the role was recast with her younger sister Rocío Garcel.
      • Guadalupe Noel, Norma Echevarría and Vicky Burgoa, the respective original voices of Zirconia, CereCere and Fish's Eye, died in 2009, 2013 and 2016. As a result, in this duology, the characters are instead voiced by Martha Rave, Mariana Ortiz and Ricardo Bautista.
      • Rubén León becomes the fourth actor to voice Rei's grandfather, after Herman Lópeznote , Jesús Colínnote  and Armando Corianote .
      • Casandra Acevedo voices JunJun instead of Mónica Villaseñor due to the latter's declining health. Villaseñor died on February 3, 2022, eight months after Eternal's Netflix release.
    • As with Crystal, the Italian release was dubbed in Rome instead of Milan, so the characters appearing in both SuperS and Eternal were inevitably recast:
      • Rachele Paolelli voices Nehellenia instead of Dania Cericola.
      • Sonia Scotti voices Zircornia instead of Grazia Migneco.
      • Lorenzo Crisci voices Helios instead of Massimo Antonio Rossi.
      • Gianni Giuliano voices Rei's grandfather instead of Maurizio Scattorin (who voiced him in the first season and R), the late Sante Calogero (who voiced him in S) and Pietro Ubaldi (who voiced him in SuperS and Sailor Stars).
      • Matteo Liofredi, Marco Baroni and Gianluca Crisafi respectively voice Fish's Eye, Tiger's Eye and Hawk's Eye instead of Emanuela Pacotto, Diego Sabre and Patrizio Prata.
      • Francesca Rinaldi, Ludovica Bebi, Monica Bertolotti and Alessia Amendola respectively voice CereCere, PallaPalla, JunJun and VesVes instead of Daniela Fava, Federica Valenti, Nadia Biondini and Marcella Silvestri.
    • In the French dub, Diana is voiced by Caroline Combes instead of Naiké Fauveau-Mellerin, as the latter already had a prominent role in Crystal (Luna).
  • Playing Their Own Twin: In the Latin Spanish dub, Xenotime and Zeolite are both played by Ángel Rodríguez.
  • Real-Life Relative:
    • In the Latin American Spanish dub:

    • The Brazilian Portuguese dub brings back most of the cast from BKS's dub of the '90s anime, like Melissa Garcia (Ami/Sailor Mercury), Denise Reis (Rei/Sailor Mars), Fernanda Bullara (Makoto/Sailor Jupiter), Priscilla Concepcion (Minako/Sailor Venus), Úrsula Bezerra (Chibi-usa/Sailor Chibi Moon), Rita Almeida (Setsuna/Sailor Pluto), Márcia Regina (Michiru/Sailor Neptune), Fátima Noya (Hotaru/Sailor Pluto) and César Marchetti (Mamoru/Tuxedo Mask).
  • Self-Adaptation: Naoko Takeuchi served as the film's chief supervisor and wrote the lyrics to "Tsukiiro Chainon".
