Trivia tropes for Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie

Trivia with Their Own Pages

  • Actor Existence Limbo: Foot Brute is in the movie, but he conspicuously doesn't talk, which is noticeable given the Foot Lieutenant and Foot Brute loved to banter in the show due to their actors, Rob Paulsen and Maurice Lamarche, being friends in real life.
  • Channel Hop: While the movie is clearly still under the Nickelodeon umbrella, it's not premiering on the main channel or being released in theaters by Paramount, but going straight to Netflix.
  • Dueling Works: With Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again. Both films are traditionally animated, and both are long-awaited returns of their franchises.
  • Development Gag: Raphael was going to lose his right eye before the concept was scrapped. The final film alludes to the concept by showing, after throwing off the Krang's control and removing some of the biomass from his head, his bandanna is torn up around his right eye.
  • Executive Meddling: Nickelodeon told the crew to make the film largely standalone to broaden viewership, which results in the Hidden City and Baron Draxum (two very important elements of the series) going largely unmentioned, beyond oblique references and cameos. Warren Stone and Hypno-Potamus were also almost replaced with generic henchmen in the opening act, but the crew managed to convince Nickelodeon to keep their appearance in the movie.
  • Older Than They Think: the Casey Jones in this movie is revealed to be a "junior", as he was named after a parent. Several previous incarnations have also been "Casey Jones II", although they were named after their fathers rather than their mother.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": A rather egregious example happens with the Japanese dub, as this film is the only thing from the original TV show to be dubbed and broadcasted in Japan, and the only reason why it got one was due to Netflix's policies on dubbing their original productions to almost every language possible.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • A strange example. Rob Paulsen still plays Foot Lieutenant in the movie, but the first trailer for the movie has a different actor say one of his lines ("Tonight, with this key, we shall free them to lay waste to this world!") from the film with a noticeably more nasally inflection.
    • In the Italian dub, Andrea Lavagnino voices Splinter since his voice actor from the main series, Roberto Draghetti, died two years before the movie's release.
  • Refitted for Sequel: The Krang were supposed to be the antagonists of Season 3 of the show, but once the episode order was cut in half and the series was cancelled, the crew decided to integrate them as the villains of the movie instead.
  • Schedule Slip: The movie was supposed to be released in 2021, but production wasn't complete until April 2022, with the film's final release date being August 5, 2022.
