- The Cast Showoff: Early on, Nick's partner Larry Doyle (played by Kevin Pollak) does his James T. Kirk impression.
- Divorced Installment: This was originally a Dirty Harry film, but Clint Eastwood deemed it too grim.
- Dueling Works: Shares a very similar premise to Cape Fear, released only a month later.
- Dyeing for Your Art:
- Denzel Washington worked out three hours a day, six days a week, for four months so as to not look out-of-shape for his Shirtless Scenes.
- John Lithgow trained himself to not blink for long periods of time to give the impression he had a glass eye. He also wore a knee brace to ensure his limp would be consistent and believable.
- What Could Have Been:
- Writer Fred Dekker originally planned to direct the film himself but lost interest when his first choice for the lead Kurt Russell backed out.
- The rough cut of the film was much more violent, inciting negative responses from the test audiences. A Deleted Scene had Blake torturing Styles and inducing him to vomit.
