Trivia / Ren & Stimpy 2x04 "Sven Hoek"

Go To

  • Banned Episode: This episode was pulled from reruns on Nicktoons in the late 2000s, has never aired on NickRewind (despite clips appearing often in promos), was unavailable on Amazon or Hulu and was dropped from the rerun rotation when the show returned to MTV in 2016, due to licensing issues involving Raymond Scott’s music.
  • Defictionalization: John Kricfalusi noted on the DVD Commentary that there was a Ren and Stimpy fan website dedicated to the Loyal Order of Stupids, Sven and Stimpy's "club", called "Members of the Loyal Order of Stupids".
  • Executive Meddling: As mentioned in the main page, John Kricfalusi originally wanted the board game to be "Don't Pee on the Electric Fence", but Nickelodeon wouldn't let him use the word "pee". They compromised on "whiz". This is one of the few times he felt that executive meddling actually made something better, as "Don't Pee on the Electric Fence" doesn't have the same zing as "Don't Whiz on the Electric Fence."
    • The live-action opening with a man playing an accordion in place of the title card was made by Nickelodeon instead of Spumco, much to John's annoyance.
  • The Other Darrin: The "Goodbye" bumper marked the very first appearance of Billy West as Ren. It sounded quite different from his subsequent readings, primarily because they sped-up his voice as they had for John K. After this segment, it was determined that West could hit the appropriate pitch naturally.
  • Write What You Know: Ren's outburst at the end of the episode was inspired by an incident from John Kricfalusi's childhood where his father yelled at him because he didn't like the pair of pants he was wearing.
