  • Actor-Inspired Element: Milo was based on a real Yugoslavian gangster that Zlatko Buric once knew in Zagreb, who owned a bakery and would encourage his clients to try the pastries while doing business.
  • Beam Me Up, Scotty!: Milo doesn't say the oft-quoted line: "Fukker du me' mig, Frankeh?" ("Are yo' fookin' with me, Frankeh?"). He says: "Fukker du me' mig? Han fukker med mig!!" ("Are yo' fookin' with me? He is fookin' with me!!").
  • Enforced Method Acting: When Frank aggressively interrogates a man, the other actor had been rehearsing with The Other Marty and was expecting the previous actor's more sedate performance. When Kim Bodnia began ruffing up the actor and smashing the set, the actor's shock and discomfort is real.
  • The Other Marty: Frank was originally cast with a different actor, who was fired during the rehearsals. Kim Bodnia was cast two weeks before shooting began.
  • Write What You Know: Nicholas Winding Refn made the sequels to pay off a debt while struggling to provide for his infant daughter. With that in mind it becomes very obvious why fatherhood is such a big part of the films, with both Tonny's and Milo's parental love for their children is their main redeeming qualities.
